CV

In English Mariana Varna completed her PhD in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. Philippe Bertheau at the University Paris VII Denis Diderot (France). During her PhD she studied the cellular and molecular mechanisms implied in the response to the chemotherapy in breast cancers. Thereafter, she continued with a first postdoctoral internship in Prof. Anne Janin’s unit where she worked on secondary resistance induced by tumor stem cells. In parallel, she set up the platform of tumor xenograft in mice in the Animal Facility of the University Institute of Hematology. In 2012 she is recruited to the Langevin Institute of ESPCI (School of Physics and Industrial Chemistry of the City of Paris) where she joined the unit of Prof. Mathias Fink. During this postdoctoral internship she worked on hyperthermia induced with gold nanoparticles to eliminate the tumor stem cells and thus to limit tumor resistance. In 2014 she joined Dr. Letourneur's unit (UMR INSERM 1148) to develop hybrid nanoparticles for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In 2015 she obtained an Associate Professor position at the University Paris-Sud Saclay in the group of Prof. Patrick Couvreur (Galien Institute, Châtenay-Malabry, France). Her current research activities are focused on the development of new therapeutic tools for cardiovascular diseases. She is co-author of 40 peer review articles in international journals, 5 Proceedings Book, 3 book chapters and 3 didactic publications. She is also a reviewer for various journals, among which Pharmacological research, Clinical cancer research, Journal of Controlled Released.
